Born in Memphis but raised in Mississippi, the singer-songwriter is ready to go full-force as a recording artist, keeping up the momentum from her single “Loved By You” three years back. Now, she’s returned to unleash the official music video for “Don’t Leave Your Girl.”
The new single previews her forthcoming EP arriving in January, produced by the Menahan Street Band of Amy Winehouse’s critically-acclaimed album Back To Black. “Don’t Leave Your Girl” touches on the fact that there are two sides to every woman: the woman who’s so in love she will put up with anything to make sure her lover doesn’t leave — and the woman who’s so secure, she doesn’t need him to stay.
Speaking about the record, she says, “It was important for me to play both of those women in the music video because I have been BOTH women in my life. I want ‘DLYG’ to be a self- love anthem for the woman who finally knows what she wants in a relationship, and refuses to settle for less.”
The three-minute, ’70s-themed visual sees KIRBY in belching the lyrics from both perspectives, as her lover throws a rock on her window in an attempt to swoon her. Whether she’s singing or rapping, KIRBY makes music for the girl she used to be and the woman she’s becoming. Watch the story unfold!
