  Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is hosting a strongman event on the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday, Jan. 19, with the ticket and merchandise proceeds benefiting Ventura County, Santa Monica and CalFire Benevolent funds.

  Dave Grohl and Top Chefs Bring Down the House and Fire Up the BBQ

  Dave Grohl, Bruce Kalman, Duff Goldman and Nick Shipp cooked both onstage and at the BBQ at the Eat, Drink and Support music and food festival on Saturday, Dec. 22, raising thousands of dollars for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank at its 100,000-square-foot facility in Vernon on Saturday.

  “We want to help because we can and because we should,” Kalman told L.A. Weekly.
  
  The food bank was started in 1973 by Tony Collier. Since then, the L.A. Regional Food Bank has distributed the equivalent of more than 1 billion meals across the L.A. community.

  Pot Gives Back, Led by Bloom Farms' World Food Day Campaign to Help Local Food Bank

  As the season of giving kicks off, the cannabis industry continues its year-round effort to give back, recently highlighted by some of California's biggest brands and a ton of local dispensaries joining forces to raise awareness of hunger on United Nations' World Food Day. Led by Bloom Farms, which since 2014 has fed more than 1.4 million meals to Californians in need, the companies kicked off a monthlong effort starting Oct. 16, which is World Food Day.

  Metal Stars Gather to Bowl for Ronnie James Dio

  On Thursday, Oct. 25, the fourth annual Bowl for Ronnie takes place at the Pinz Bowling Center in Studio City. Much like the annual Ride for Ronnie event, Bowl for Ronnie raises money for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

  On the surface, a collaboration between Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver/The Cult drummer Matt Sorum and actress-comedian Jane Lynch (Best in Show, Glee, etc.) makes little sense. And yet they’ve come together through their shared love of the arts to try to help public schools, as budgets for the arts and music are continually brutally slashed.
