Beautifying LA: There's free ice cream, if you don't mind working for it. The Ben & Jerry's truck, which is cruising LA for six weeks, and Flavorpill are helping spiff up Micheltorena Elementary School in Silver Lake. They're asking anyone and everyone to help paint a bright, happy mural on the school wall. There will be live music, plenty of free ice cream and celebrity guest scoopers. Show up between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., ready to work. (Micheltorena Elementary School)

4. Saturday, May 28:

Nibble Bit Tabby Brewery: On Saturday from 7 p.m. until midnight, brewer and owner Brian Lethcoe will be serving up some beer at Nibble Bit, his brewery on the southern edge of downtown. (2001 S. Santa Fe Ave., LA)

Outdoor Cinema Food Fest: The news season kicks off this weekend with a screening of “There's Something About Mary,” a performance by the band Glen Iris and a flock of food trucks: Frysmith, Nom Nom, Greasy Wiener, Lake Street Creamery, Vizzi and Jose O'Malley's. Cost: $10. Doors: 5:30 p.m. Band: 6:30 p.m. Movie: 8:30 p.m. (Los Angeles State Historic Park)

2. Sunday, May 29:

The Bruery's 3rd Anniversary: On Sunday, Placentia brewery The Bruery, dubbed by some the best brewery in the Southland, celebrates its third anniversary with a brew fest featuring dozens of beers from over 10 local breweries. Cheese and snacks will abound. Proceeds benefit the Lestonnac Free Clinic in Orange. $35, general; $50, VIP. Two sessions: 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. (The Phoenix Club, Anaheim)

1. Sunday, May 29:

Red Sun BBQ Garden: Katana's weekly barbecue and beer garden, which runs through Labor Day, kicks off this Sunday. DJ Cassie Stevens spins. People hang out on the patio and check out the Sunset Strip Tourists. BBQ Garden menu includes: yellowtail sashimi, taniguchi roll with Kobe beef-wrapped avocado and oysters on the half-shell. There are bar specials include watermelon margaritas ($8), sake sangria ($6) and more. (Katana, West Hollywood)
