Yes, the Festival of Lights will twinkle a little different this year, but the good news is there are more options than ever for take-out  that can help you celebrate at home with family. Here are 10 tips on how old and new traditions can close out 2020.

The Spielberg family-owned Pico-Robertson neighborhood restaurant The Milky Way will be open for the community offering kosher dairy favorites for takeout, contactless curbside pickup and delivery via Postmates. Angelenos can bring comfort food favorites home with them by placing orders by phone or online on Postmates.com. Contactless curbside pickup available – just pop open your trunk and the Milky Way team will take care of the rest. The restaurant will be offering 25% off beer and wine with food purchase and will continue offering their family meals for four. New to-go specials include build-your-own latke platters, halibut fish chowder roasted vegetable chili, and take-and-bake lasagna which includes mixed green salad. There’s also Leah’s cheese blintzes. Quick follow up/update here to let you know that in addition to the below details shared, for all purchases during Hanukkah, The Milky Way will also be offering one complementary order of latkes with purchase of an entree. Customers can use code: LATKES20 to redeem via phone order. All orders during Hanukkah will also include complementary gelt as a special treat for the kiddos.

SLAB’s Hanukkah special package feeds a family of hour and includes a half brisket, latkes with apple sauce and sour cream, mixed green salad, matzo ball soup, and roasted green beans with honey, garlic and shallot. Pre-order 24 hours in advance from December 10-18 for pickup at 8136 W. 3rd Street.

Holocaust Museum L.A. is offering a virtual, family-friendly Hanukkah celebration combining history and cuisine. The evening will include remarks from Akasha Richmond, chef and co-owner of AKASHA, as well as an opportunity for attendees to engage with Holocaust survivor Gabriella Karin to learn about her stories, favorite Hanukkah memories, and light the menorah. Local attendees can purchase latkes and add-ons from AKASHA’s “Vodka and Latkes” Hanukkah special menu until Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 11:59 a.m.

The event supports the Holocaust Museum L.A. during Hanukkah. A great way to get some of the best potato latkes in town by Akasha Richmond and listen to stories by Holocaust survivors. Jerry’s Patio Café & Bar in Marina del Rey is offering a holiday catering menu that serves 5-6 people, for $200. This includes a few choices of soup/salad, main dishes and desserts. They also have a few options a la carte, like their ¼ pan ricotta kugel with cornflake streusel. Other menu items include matzo ball soup, a first cut brisket, crispy potato latkes with house-made apple sauce. They also have wine and cocktails available for pairing.

Uplifters Kitchen is offering potato zucchini latkes with vegan sour cream and apple compote for Hanukkah. Customers can order online or call the cafe at (424) 268-4904 to place their order by December 8, for pickup on December 10 after 12 p.m. Each order comes with 8-10 latkes. Executive Chef Salima Saunders is whipping up vegan, gluten free and Hanukkah-friendly cinnamon sugar donuts as another special all month long.

The complete Hanukkah Dinner from Lucques Catering includes potato latkes with applesauce and crème fraiche; braised beef brisket with horseradish cream and mashed potatoes; Moroccan beets with labneh, pine nuts and olives; roasted root vegetables and braided challah. For dessert there’s an apple-cranberry crumble with cider crème fraiche. The dinner, available December 10-12 and December 17-19, serves six and is priced at $275. Hand-painted Hanukkah cookies can be added for an additional $36/dozen.  And if you want to help those of the Lucques Group and AOC restaurant community that have been laid off once again due to the outdoor dining shutdown, a GoFundMe account has been established.

Feedman’s – the award-winning Jewish comfort food restaurant and bar in Silver Lake – has reopened for takeout in time for Hanukkah after temporarily closing in April due to the pandemic.

Available for pre-order, Freedman’s will be offering family-style Hanukkah dinners from Thursday, December 10th through Saturday, December 12th. For two ($100) or four ($200) people, the dinner includes a choice of their glazed brisket or whole roasted chicken alongside sesame challah with seaweed butter; the Freedman’s latke; matzo ball soup; green salad with pickled cucumber, avocado, celery and roasted carrots with honey vinegar and braised golden raisins. There are also options to add Freedman’s guava cheesecake, ice cold martinis and bottles of natural wine.

Chef Akasha Richmond and Partner Alan Schulman’s AKASHA present VODKAS & LATKES, a holiday Hanukkah Dinner offered for takeout and delivery from Thursday, December 10 through Thursday, December 17.

Start off with a few of Akasha’s Hanukkah vodka cocktails – Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel with Mulholland Vodka, Schaner Farm’s grapefruit, blood orange and Limoncello; The Jelly Donut with apricot jam, cranberry-infused vodka, lemon and mint; Light the Menorah with vodka, Lavender Blue lemonade, side of lavender sugar; and The AKASHA 2.0 with pineapple and shiso-infused vodka, green juice, lime and pineapple juice. The cocktails are pre-mixed and sold in 12 oz. (2-3 servings) glass bottles and priced at $25 each.

In addition to Akasha’s Yukon gold potato pancakes with Fairhill Farm’s apple sauce and sour cream, the menu includes starters of chopped chicken liver or vegan green pea and walnut vegan faux “liver” with matzo ball soup. There are entrees for carnivores and vegans – slow-braised beef brisket; chicken tagine with citrus, saffron and olives; vegetable tagine and cauliflower couscous and red lentils with roasted vegetables. Top it off with sweet noodle kugel with ricotta, currants, apples, cottage cheese and sour cream. Akasha’s Hanukkah cookie box includes Mom’s Pecan Hanukkah Snowballs, coconut macaroons (plain and chocolate dipped); chocolate-hazelnut rugelach; and apricot jam and dried fruit rugelach, priced at $12: AKASHA at Home.

Huckleberry is offering Hanukkah catering, with Creekstone Farms braised brisket, organic sweet noodle kugel, potato pancakes, matzo ball soup and boxes of cinnamon sugar donut holes, gluten-free caramelized persimmon cheesecake, chocolate rye financier for dessert as well as a Hanukkah Cookie Decorating Kit with shortbread dreidels, blue plant-based icing and all-natural decoratifs. Available December 10-18, orders must be placed by 3 p.m. and 72 hours before your desired pickup date. Orders can be picked up from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. daily.

Esters Wine Shop & Bar has gift boxes, including one in collaboration with local cookbook author, Cooking With Cocktail Rings’ Kylie Mazon Chambers, as well as virtual tastings. There are wine bags and gift boxes in three sizes filled with wine and noshes. They can add some extra seasonal with fresh and dried flowers from local florist Krystal Chang to any gift box or bag. The shop has also partnered with Chambersfor a Share & Savor Wine Pack featuring three of her favorite wines and a copy of her Share + Savor cookbook.
