The Tony Hawk Foundation created Boards + Bands from a simple dream in 2011. Spearheaded by two legends in their fields, pro-skater Tony Hawk and musician Ben Harper, the idea was to raise funds to build skate parks for at-risk youths. The idea to have musicians write lyrics on skaters old boards became a great way to raise money for this special cause.

2013 brings together these musicians and skaters: Sir Elton John, Bernie Taupin, and Chris Cole, Ben Harper and Christian Hosoi, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash and Tony Hawk, Daft Punk and Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, John Lydon and Duane Peters. The Grammy Museum hosted a special press conference to announce this project's official kick off December 5th, and to house the boards for viewing until their online auction ends.

These special collaboration skateboards will be available in a celebrity auction launching December 5th at 7pm/pst on eBay (BoardsandBands.org), and will be on display through the end of the auction at the GRAMMY Museum in downtown Los Angeles, California. All photos by Michele McManmon.
