If I were a councilman / Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum / All day long I'd biddy biddy bum / If I were a councilman.

So, $178,000 a year and a taxpayer-bought car isn't enough for you? What do you do? You take a day off and … ask for more money!

That's the gig next week for city Councilman Tony Cardenas, who's embarking on a marathon, 12-hour fundraiser June 9, all in the name of … him.

For some strange reason, we didn't get a press release on this (guess those taxpayer-funded P.R. folks in Cardenas' office also took a day off), but The City Maven (via LA Observed) caught wind of Cardenas' email to supporters:

I invite you to stop by, spend a little one-on-one time with me and bring a few checks …

So if you folks in the Valley's east side have had trouble getting potholes filled or having graffiti removed, never fear. Just bring your money on down to Cardenas' place June 9. That's Democracy in action.

There's been little competition for Cardenas' seat and, as an incumbent, there will be even less if he runs again. Still, the councilman notes:

If you have already given to one or all three committees, you can still help by asking a friend, colleague or spouse to give. I know it sounds like a lot to ask, but it needs to be done …

Our check is in the mail, homes.
