During their year of touring dangerously, San Diego-bred, L.A.-based quartet the Soft Pack have succeeded in getting everyone to forget their old band name … you know … the one that people misunderstood … and they tired of answering questions about … what was that name, anyway?

No, 2010 has been all about the tightly wound indie-rock music on the foursome's self-titled debut, released on Kemado back in February and celebrated with a flurry of 10 shows over a 13-hour period around the Los Angeles area.

Since then, they've played underground venues, venerable clubs, the FYF Fest, a raucously good set in the blazing hot sun on the big stage at Lollapalooza and, now, a six-week tour with Philadelphia indie-rocker Kurt Vile.

The penultimate date of that tour is tonight at the Echoplex.

Elsewhere tonight: Beat-scene all-star Nosaj Thing debuts his eye-popping visuals headlines the El Rey Theatre, supported by Toro y Moi and Jogger. … Dean Wareham performs music from the three Galaxie 500 albums (Today, On Fire and This Is Our Music, all released between 1988 and '90) at the Troubadour. … And Cursive's Tim Kasher plays the Bootleg Theater behind The Game of Monogamy, his solo album on Saddle Creek Records.

Also: KT Tunstall at the Music Box; K-Ci and JoJo at Club Nokia; Austin Hartley Leonard at the Hotel Cafe; the Supervillains at the Roxy; Lady Sinatra at the Viper Room; Erin McKeown at Largo; Evil Beaver and Cinderella Motel at Spaceland; Sabrosa Purr and Salesman at the Silverlake Lounge; the Smart Brothers and Miracle Parade at the Redwood Bar; Zion I and Audible Mainframe at the Central in Santa Monica; Cassandra Wilson at the Grammy Museum; Particle at the Mint; Tyler Hilton at Brixton South Bay and XBXRX and Kid Infinity at the 5 Star Bar.
