Good things some to those who … make good music?

Ah, it'd warm our blog band-besotted cackles if it were always so. But there is a happy story to tell about Phosphorescent, the Brooklyn-based, Athens, Ga.-born alt-country band who this spring released the twangy nugget Here's to Taking It Easy, its fourth album of originals.

Earlier this month, after a long NYC night, Matthew Houck and bandmates found that their van, filled with equipment and merchandise (estimated value: $40,000), had been stolen. An online campaign for donations ensued; fellow musicians came to the rescue with loaner gear; and Phosphorescent was back on the road after missing only a couple of tour dates.

Then, a minor miracle: Four days later, police recovered Phosphorescent's van, gear intact. The donations were returned, and the quintet was back on a tour that wends its way to the Troubadour tonight (where J. Tillman and Grouplove support).

As for their new album, it's worthy of the Iron & Wine/Will Oldham comparisons it has received, and it might even do the man Phosphorescent honored with a 2009 covers album — Willie Nelson — proud.

O'Brien will be back in the U.S. this fall with a full band. … Also at the Hotel Cafe, Jesca Hoop (abetted by Blake Mills) performs songs from her new album “Hunting My Dress.” … And two L.A. bands celebrates the release of new EPs — noise-pop trio Polls plays the Bootleg Theater, and power-pop quartet the Monthlies play Spaceland as part of the ongoing International Pop Overthrow festival.
