Pavement's year-long victory lap has been exhilarating for the band and fans alike — we know people who haven't stopped grinning since Coachella.

But the faithful who have it in the back of their heads that the pride of Stockton might keep the wheels turning and make another album shouldn't get their hopes up.

In an interview with Las Vegas Weekly to preview the upcoming Matador at 21 festival in Sin City, frontman Stephen Malkmus said the band will go “back to our regular lives” after this tour.

“We're sticking to our guns and what we promised, even though it has been fun. Anyone who bought a ticket to see us, I don't want them to have paid these slightly higher prices to see us and then have us right back there again — it's just disingenuous. And we want to keep it fun. As soon as it gets to a kind of Pixies you-just-keep-going-because-you-can, it becomes more of a job. We didn't want it to be that way. We just wanted it to be a blast.”

That puts a star on tonight's show at the Hollywood Bowl, which features another influential band playing Matador at 21, Sonic Youth, along with local sensations No Age.
