Indie pop club Transistor will throw its final bash tonight after a six-year run. Officially, no reason was given for the closure of the popular Thursday night party, which has been located at Grand Star Jazz Club in Chinatown for most of its existence, and attendance has at least appeared to be steady in recent months.

Following the announcement, rumors abound that the club was attempting a publicity stunt to generate more business. Transistor's promoters countered with the MySpace bulletin excerpted below:

“We're never about making money, and we never did.

The reason the club started 6 years ago, was as a homage to CaféBleu, a club we all loved and grew up with. When it ended, we decided to continue on the tradition playing the music we love for us and for a whole new generation of people who shared the same interests, mod, soul, shoegaze, ska, post-punk,60s, britpop, disco, motown, 80s, punk, etc. Our love for music was the main inspiration put together to bring you Transistor.”

All four DJs will continue with their other pursuits. Dorian, who also promotes the event, will continue with his popular afterhours Solid Gold as well as the Rockognized parties. DJ Alex collaborates on AM/FM, also at the Grand Star, with Larry G. of Underground. Maurice de la Falaise is a resident of monthly Spanish-language indie club Automatico and forthcoming party Danceteria! Pop Club. Clifton aka DJ SoftTouch remains at Underground, Solid Gold, Funky Sole and Sonic. In the bulletin, promoters indicated that the club playing “the soundtrack to your life” may return for one-off events.
