You could almost feel the pop geeks pinching themselves when Dayton, Ohio's favorite former fourth-grade schoolteacher Robert Pollard announced earlier this year that Guided by Voices would reunite to play the Matador at 21 festivities, and then do a reunion tour too.

The tour, featuring the band's original lineup, comes five-plus years after GBV's “final show” on New Year's Eve 2004. Those who watched the live stream Sunday night on MySpace witnessed Pollard and bandmates in top form, ripping through a hit-laden set with the energy of teenagers. (The performance will stream again at 1 p.m. here.)

The reunion tour has fans of the long-running band buzzing about 40-song setlists and the 52-year-old frontman's beer-swilling stage show.

Which makes tonight's show at the Wiltern kinda feel like last call.

Elsewhere: Tired Pony — the supergroup featuring Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol), Peter Buck (R.E.M.) and Richard Colbern (Belle & Sebastian) along with Jacknife Lee, Ian Archer and Scott McCaughey — headlines the El Rey Theatre. … Twin Shadow plays It's a School Night at Bardot behind its album Forget, produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear.

Also: Three new residencies kick off in Silver Lake/Echo Park environs. Radars to the Sky holds forth at Spaceland (Le Switch and Wires in the Walls support); Evan Voytas headlines the Echo (with Blank Blue and Telegram); and Wet & Reckless rocks the Silverlake Lounge (Fences and Robotanists open). And there's Mark Ballas at the Mint; Adestra and Guy Sebastian at the Viper Room; Kevin Blechdom at Pehrspace; and Lovers & Poets at the Airliner.
