The festival-closing Coachella set by Gorillaz back in April was as memorable for what it wasn't as what it was.

The Damian Albarn-fronted collective went it without its typical big-screen animations and played unmasked — with the Clash's Mick Jones and Paul Simonon joining for a set that included guest bits from Bobby Womack, De La Soul, singer Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon and Snoop Dogg.

Gorillaz' return to southern California tonight will have some star power too — Lou Reed will join Albarn, Jamie Hewlett and crew on this stop of their Escape To Plastic Beach tour, along with Miho Hatori. Reed is expected to perform lead vocals “Some Kind Of Nature,” Hatori to guest on “19-2000” from the band's self-titled debut.

N.E.R.D. opens tonight's show at the Gibson Amphitheatre.
