Not quite 30 years since he founded Tears for Fears with Roland Orzabal, Curt Smith is happily ensconced in Los Angeles as a singer/songwriter/composer, social media maven and — according to his Twitter feed — recently certified youth soccer referee.

In between following his kids' exploits on the pitch and cheering for his beloved Manchester United, though, Smith this summer launched an Internet music series called Stripped Down Live. And, to keep things fresh, he has begun a songwriting-via-e-mail collaboration (now two songs old) with musicians he meets via social media.

The latest tune, “Perfectly … Still,” was writen with L.A.-based Melissa R. Kaplan, who makes music under the moniker Universal Hall Pass. Nice song, and the two have never met?

Maybe Kaplan should make her way to Bardot tonight for DJ Chris Douridas' weekly It's a School Night. Smith will be performing, and Angela McCluskey (Telepopmusik) will do the late set.
