Just in time for Black Friday, Black Mountain and the Black Angels hit the El Rey Theatre tonight.

It's one of the stops on something called the “Dropout Boogie Tour” that pairs the Vancouver psych-rock quintet with the Austin psych-rock quintet, and, cosmically speaking, the stars couldn't have aligned better.

Both bands released new albums on Sept. 14 — the Canadians muscling up with Wilderness Heart on Jagjaguwar and the Texans refining their moody drone with Phosphene Dream on the resurgent Blue Horizon imprint brought back from the dead after four decades by Richard Gottehrer and Seymour Stein.

The Black Angels, in particular, have holiday shoppers in mind: Friday has been anointed (another) Record Store Day, and in its honor the Austinites will release a new DVD, Night of the Vampire. It captures the concert given by the legendary Roky Erickson and the Black Angels at the El Rey on Halloween night, 2008.

All we can say is, bring out the black lights.
