A taxi driver in an argument over a fare crashed his cab into a home in the Cahuenga Pass Wednesday night, authorities said.

A honeymooning couple from Italy took the taxi — it appeared in news footage to be a Beverly Hills Cab Company car — from Beverly Hills to the home a friend in the Cahuenga Pass but were unhappy when faced with a $35 fare for the relatively short ride.

The couple argued that the driver got lost several times en route to the home. They offered the man $26 and told him to get a GPS device.

He allegedly drove toward them and hit the house in the 7100 block of Woodrow Wilson Drive shortly before 9:05 p.m., said Lt. L. Mims of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station. The driver was taken into custody and was expected to be arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police at the scene said.

One resident of the home sustained an arm injury in the collision. A reporter at the scene said the meter read $37.80.

A trip from downtown Beverly Hills to Hollywood in a Beverly Hills Cab Company car usually costs about $20 to $24.

The Beverly Hills Courier reported earlier this year that the city was looking into complaints, including “20 warnings, citations or investigations” against Beverly Hills Cab and two other taxi services permitted to operate in that gilded city.
