Echo Park's most famous cat, “Room 8,” reads his fan mail at Elysian Heights Elementary School on the first day of class. For 16 years, beginning in 1952, the gray-and-white tom would remain on school grounds during classes, then vanish for the summer, only to return with the kids in the fall.
