There's a haunting quality to this image of a traffic-accident victim being assisted by ambulance attendants at the intersection of Alameda and 41 streets. Wilbur Chidester, whose face is being wrapped by gauze, seems to be at the mercy or the help of figures whose eyes are also hidden. There only remains a huddle of sightless men holding each other and sources of light — two flashlights and some road flares.
