The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that golfer Eldrick “Tiger” Woods was involved in a rollover car crash at approximately 7:12 a.m. in Rancho Palos Verdes, Tuesday.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the Sheriff’s department said firefighters had to use a “Jaws of life” hydraulic rescue tool to extract Woods from the vehicle and transport him to a Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

“The interior was more or less in tact, which kind of gave him the cushion to survive,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanuava said in a press conference Tuesday. “Otherwise, it would have been a fatal crash.”

According to Golf Digest, Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, confirmed that Woods is in surgery for “multiple leg injuries.”

The collision took place on the border of the Rolling Hills Estates and Woods was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Blvd.

Sheriff Villanueva said the area is known for accidents and with the vehicle being found hundreds of feet away from the road, there was reason to believe the vehicle was traveling at a high speed.

Villanueva also said there was “no evidence of impairment” and when deputies arrived, Woods was conscious.

An investigation is currently being conducted by LASD Lomita Station.
