TiGeorges' Chicken, George Laguerre's Echo Park Haitian restaurant, has become an ad hoc center for earthquake relief. Laguerre, who is from Port-de-Paix, has been fielding calls, doing interviews, organizing a relief effort and operating as a community center in the wake of yesterday's devastating earthquake in Haiti. And tomorrow night, Laguerre is hosting a fundraiser at his restaurant. He says that right now the focus is to help send doctors over to the country and get medical equipment donated for those doctors to take with them. As he fielded calls in his restaurant, Laguerre said that he's managed to contact one of his cousins, but that he hasn't been able to reach his brother or other family members. “There's no phone system in Haiti right now,” said Laguerre. You can help by coming to the restaurant tomorrow night, Thursday, January 14th. The dinner is at 5 p.m.
