Thyme Cafe and Market is opening tomorrrow morning on Ocean Park in Santa Monica. The lofty space, which has been under construction for the last year, is also the new home of Thyme Catering, founded by caterer and 3rd generation Angeleno Maire Byrne, whose grandmother's family owned a dairy farm in Santa Monica. Byrne is a graduate of the CIA in Hyde Park, New York, and spent a 6 month internship at Berkeley's Chez Panisse before coming to Los Angeles to open her catering business.

Thyme Cafe will serve house-made pastries, salads, sandwiches, soups and desserts, as well as an extensive gourmet to-go menu (including Hollywood Bowl picnic baskets). The 2500 square foot space also has a table laden with Halloween candies (these will change with the season), cookbooks, glassware and other gifts, as well as fresh and frozen to-go foods in cases. (A note to patrons of the late, lamented Boule: if you've broken your Roost juice glasses, Byrne is selling them in the same patterns, for $6.50.)
