Three-Vehicle Collision near Salvia Road Left Multiple Fatalities

PALM SPRINGS, CA (September 5, 2023) – Sunday afternoon, three people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on North Gene Autry Trail.

The fatal collision happened just before 3:00 p.m. between Salvia Road and Via Escuela. Police said high winds in the area kicked up sand, causing poor visibility in the area.

Based on the initial investigation, two northbound vehicles on North Gene Autry Trail slowed down due to the “blowing sand”. However, a third vehicle failed to slow down and collided with one of the first vehicles.

Unfortunately, the first responders declared the driver and the two passengers inside the third car dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the two other people from the wreckage to a hospital for minor to moderate injuries. Their current condition is currently unknown.

At this time, the identities of the deceased occupants remain undisclosed to the public, pending notification from their next of kin.

Police do not suspect drugs and alcohol to be a factor in the collision. Those with information about the North Gene Autry Trail three-vehicle crash are encouraged to contact the department’s traffic division at 760-323-8125.
