DUI Driver Arrested and Three People Dead after Multi-Car Crash on Black Canyon Highway

PHOENIX, AZ (July 17, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, 3 people are dead following a collision on Thunderbird Road and Black Canyon Highway. According to the Phoenix police, the deadly collision occurred just before 3:00 a.m., July 9th, on Interstate 17 involving multiple vehicles. Upon investigation, the officers discovered that an impaired driver was traveling westbound on Thunderbird Road. They crashed into a red Chevrolet Traverse headed south on I-17 Southbound Access Road for reasons unknown. Furthermore, the impact of the first collision sent the vehicle into a black Subaru stopped at a light. Unfortunately, three people were confirmed dead and their identities were not yet released and the vehicles they were in were unknown. Consequently, one driver was arrested and he was suspected to be driving under the influence. Meanwhile, the southbound lanes of I-17 were blocked during the length of the incident. No other information was released and the crash is still under investigation.
