Like a kaleidoscope with shards of colored glass forming ever-shifting mosaics, the dance concert Fracture promises an evolving mosaic of movement as three distinctively different contemporary dance companies collaborate in an evening highlighted by a triptych of premieres set to commissioned scores. Producer Jones Welsh recruited L.A.-based String Theory, an innovative ensemble of musicians, composers and dancers that paired different members with each dance troupe to compose distinctive sounds for each as well as a theme for an opening combining the ensembles. The result showcases the highly theatrical approach of choreographer Laura Karlin and her Invertigo Dance Theatre, the distinctive movement style of choreographer Bradley Michaud and his Method Contemporary Dance, and the collaborative new media direction of choreographers Maya Zellman, Ally Voye, Eva Wilder and Sarri Sanchez and their IN/EX Dance Project. Early arrivals get a bonus as Leonix Movement Theatre Ensemble offers a preshow in the theatre entryway.
