A march was held in downtown L.A., Saturday, with thousands of women protesting a recently passed Texas abortion law.

Organized by the Women’s March Foundation, the “March for Reproductive Rights,” reportedly saw 600 rallies across the U.S., with activists, celebrities and everyday women alike.

“From the east to the west, from the north to the south, we rallied in 650 locations in all 50 states,” the Women’s March organization said Saturday. “But this is only the beginning. Our fight for abortion justice is far from over.”

With chants of “Hey, hey! Ho,ho! Abortion bans have got to go,” and signs reading, “Abortion justice can’t wait,” the rallies called out Texas’ laws prohibiting abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, with no expectations made for women who may have been raped, or sexually abused.

The law took effect September 1 and Texas Gov. Ron DeSantis called it the “heartbeat bill,” saying, “every unborn child with a heartbeat will be saved” from abortions.

“Our creator endowed us with the right to life and yet millions of children lose their right to life every year because of abortion,” Abbott said in a video message posted after signing the bill. “In Texas, we worked to save those lives. That’s exactly what the Texas legislature did this session, they worked together on a bipartisan basis to pass a bill that I’m about to sign that ensures that the life of every unborn child who has a heartbeat will be saved from the ravages of abortion.”

“To everyone who took to the streets for abortion justice — all 120,000 of you — thank you,” We were clear that we won’t tolerate attacks on our reproductive freedom. That we’re going to fight until we have abortion access for ALL.

Alyssa Milano was one of the celebrities who spoke at the Los Angeles rally, outside of city hall, saying she was “tired… of having to prove” her body is her own.

“I’m tired of insisting I have a say in my own reproductive health,” Milano said in front of the crowd. “I cannot believe how fucked up America is right now and I can’t believe how a handful of men are successfully taking 50 years of rights away from women.”

Fellow actress Christine Lahti also spoke at the L.A. rally, saying she could not believe “we’re still having to fight for this shit.”

“Many of us have been fighting for women’s reproductive freedom for over 40 years,” Lahti added. “Fucking enough already. The fact that politicians are still so desperately trying to control women’s lives is both enraging, and yes, exhausting.”

The annual march began five years ago, after President Donald Trump’s election.
