In 1915, during World War I, the Ottoman Turks began a systemic elimination of the Armenian population from their historic homeland. Often referred to as “The Forgotten Genocide,” approximately 1.5 million people were killed, but the Turkish government still refuses to acknowledge this atrocity ever happened. Friday, April 24, 2015, marked the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, with marches and events taking place around the world. The Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee, in conjunction with various other religious and secular organizations serving the Los Angeles Armenian community, organized a large march in Hollywood. Starting at Sunset and Western in Little Armenia and ending at the Turkish consulate in West LA, over 130,000 people marched to raise awareness for this continued struggle by the Armenian people.
