Joy Joyner Involved in Fatal Pedestrian Crash near Catalina Drive

GOODYEAR, AZ (January 27, 2023) – Saturday morning, a crash near Bullard Avenue claimed the lives of Thomas Stenoien and a dog.

The crash happened on January 14th, at around 9:00 a.m., near Bullard Avenue and Catalina Drive, just south of Indian School Road.

According to reports, 71-year-old Stenoien and his dog, 11-year-old Judge, were walking in the area when a silver Toyota Prius, driven by Joy Joyner, struck them. The collision left both the man and the dog severely injured. Joyner then left the scene without rendering aid to the victims.

Witnesses to the incident reported that Joyner left the scene at high speeds in a 45 mph zone.

Following the crash, an off-duty officer noticed a car that fit the description of Joyner’s vehicle that was abandoned in a Walmart parking lot near the incident. Also, investigators asked for video surveillance and they confirmed that the woman leaving the vehicle was Joyner. Police then located Joyner and took her into custody.

Joyner is charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter and two counts of leaving the scene of a collision.
