Oops.

A surefire way to alert police to the possibility that maybe — allegedly — you're drunk behind the wheel is to drive through a barricade designed to protect half-marathon runners in downtown Los Angeles from traffic.

Cops say actor Thomas Gibson of Dharma & Greg and Criminal Minds fame got their attention sure enough early yesterday:

TMZ reports that the 50-year-old was told to stop at barricades for the late-night New Year's Race Los Angeles 2013 but allegedly decided to go through anyway.

Unwise choice, if true.

Gibson was stopped and arrested on suspicion of DUI about 1:05 a.m.

None of the reports we've seen seems to have pinned down exactly where this happened, but the streets blocked off for the race included Figueroa, 11th, Los Angeles , Seventh, Broadway, Main, Sunset Boulevard and Stadium Way.

City News Service says Gibson made his $15,000 bail and walked out of the police station downtown about 1:30 yesterday afternoon.

The race started at 9 p.m. Saturday and included a half marathon, a 5K and a kids' fun run.
