Chalk it up to one of music's little mysteries — how the old synths and creaky drum machines on Dâm-Funk's sprawling Toeachizown can sound so new.

L.A.'s “Ambassador of Boogie Funk,” born Damon Riddick, unleashed that double-CD, five-LP collection on the world last year, and he continues to spring new tracks to his followers on twitter.com/damfunk.

Should be quite a dance party tonight at the Troubadour, where Dâm-Funk is joined by Master Blazter (Computer Jay, J-1 and D-F), Stone's Throw Records honcho Peanut Butter Wolf, MC Eiht and Devonwho.

Elsewhere: Jane's Addiction's surprise show goes off tonight at the Roxy. … The annual rockabilly party known as Hootenanny convenes at Oak Canyon Ranch in Irvine with legends Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis headlining a bill that includes Nick 13 from Tiger Army, the Old 97's and Shooter Jennings. … Mates of State does two nights at the Echo that the duo is presenting as a variety show — Free Energy opens, and there will be comedians and all manner of shenanigans. … And Baths celebrates the release of his Anticon debut “Cerulean” on Saturday at the Troubadour with Daedelus, El Ten Eleven and Matthewdavid.
