This week's hard copy of the LA Weekly is packed with useful music information, news, profiles, and music picks (if we do say so ourselves). Haven't gotten around to grabbing one yet? Here's what you'll see:

Jeff Weiss has written an in-the-trenches feature on the rise of Jerkin', the first long-form piece on the budding Southern California hip hop subgenre. Quoth the New Boyz' Ben J on fashion of the movement: “”[W]e did the whole baggy-shirts-long-pants thing, but it gets old. We got tired of the police stopping us, thinking that we were something we're not. You can't carry a gun in skinny jeans. Besides, it's like, 'Oh, another gang song.'”

Greg Anderson is the co-owner of the great East Hollywood-based label Southern Lord, and is one half of the drone metal kings Sunn 0))). We spoke with him about a song, “Big Church,” on their new album, Monoliths and Dimensions.

Speaking of experimental women's choirs, Nikki Darling profiles the LA Ladies Choir, formed by Lavender Diamond's Becky Stark and Aska Matsumiya, of the Sads and the Moonrats.

Dennis Romero profiles Amanda Blank, in town to perform at Hard Summer 09.

Nightranger has info on the forthcoming Runaways biopic, and sights Josie Cotton, Giddle Partridge and Rodney Bingenheimer arriving in a leopard print limo at Club Social; the Cock Rock Shock fest at Relax Bar; and fuckin' Wolfmother Lazerium.

Brick Wahl's jazz picks: the World Stage Jazz Fest honors the drummer Billy Higgins; Buddy Collette's birthday at Catalina's; Wayne Horvitz's Sweeter than the Day comes in from Seattle.

Rock Picks: Dam Funk at the Hyperion Tavern; the Dodos at the Getty; Black Francis of the Pixies at the Mint (scroll down); Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and the Wiyos at Lake Elsinore; and more.
