Amid the sirocco of international sectarian conflict and domestic cacophony of poisonous partisanship, quieter voices have a hard time being heard, but Rhythm & Roots is employing inventive tactics in this benefit concert. The show will be led by two locally based dance troupes, Keshet Chaim Dance Ensemble and Lula Washington Dance Theatre, and all ticket proceeds will support arts programs directed at youth and at bridging cultural and ethnic barriers through the arts. The two dance companies are joined by female rapper MC Lyte, Grammy winner Macy Gray, Israeli pop star Harel Skaat and the interfaith Agape International Choir, an impressive accumulation of pipes to give voice to the message that these performing arts embody both the diversity of cultural roots and shared human attraction to music and rhythm.
