If you've spent any time in Big Sur, you've probably been to the Henry Miller library, still have purple sand in the back seat of your car, have blown some cash at Nepenthe and, if you're lucky, have eaten the grilled sardines at

Big Sur Bakery and Restaurant. That is, if somebody told you about it, or if you came close to running out of gas and stumbled upon the little restaurant behind the gas station. The place is owned and operated by three Los Angeles ex-pats–Michelle Wojtowicz and Phillip Wojtowicz, both Campanile alums, and Michael Gilson, who met the couple when he worked at Joe's in Venice–and they're back in town this weekend to host a food and wine tasting at Silverlake Wine, and sign some of their books in the process. The Big Sur Bakery Cookbook, the first book by the trio, was recently published by HarperCollins.

Silverlake Wine, which hosts a weekly food and wine tasting, will be featuring 5 California wines this Sunday to pair with 5 courses prepared by the Wojtowicz's (Phil is the chef; Michelle is the pastry chef). Among the dishes, a Monterey Bay squid salad with cannellini beans, and a pairing of lavender custard and rose geranium custard with shortbread. The event begins sharply at 3 p.m. this Sunday; reservations are required.

Silverlake Wine: 2395 Glendale Blvd., Los Angeles; (323) 662-9024.
