With the recent passing of modern dance icon Merce Cunningham, this young contemporary troupe presciently tackles the subject of facing death along with troubling issues of how what was once part of the cycle of life has become a closeted, almost taboo subject. Working with a local hospice, Leonix artistic directors Erin Schlabach and Jones Welch developed Crossing the Bridge, considering two siblings dealing with the brother's terminal illness and what the choreographers describe as “the poetic absurdity that can come with death.” The company performs at two local venues before taking this new work on tour. At Son of Semele Theatre, 3301 Beverly Blvd.; Fri.-Sat., Aug. 7-8, 8 p.m.; Sun., Aug. 9, 7 p.m.; $15. (818) 618-4772. Also at Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Ave., Venice; Fri., Aug. 14, 8 p.m.; $15. (818) 618-4772, or www.brownpapertickets.com/event/71699.
