Where else but at Outfest 2010 can you watch a gay spoof of Cagney & Lacey called — don't think too hard — Fagney & Gaycey? The country's biggest gay and lesbian film festival returns with queer-themed features and shorts from 23 countries including Nepal, Israel, New Zealand and the Bahamas. The centerpiece of opening night on Thursday, July 8, features the premiere of Howl, starring James Franco as a young Allen Ginsberg, followed by 147 citywide screenings. Highlights include: a panel with Glee star Jane Lynch (who's also receiving the gala award) and the stars of Lifetime's Drop Dead Gorgeous, Brooke Elliot and Margaret Cho; documentaries on William S. Burroughs, George Takei, the band Le Tigre and Stephin Merritt of Magnetic Fields; camp classic Clueless and Grease 2; and at least two films on bears — the hairy, human kind, not the hibernating ones. Opening night gala at The Orpheum, 842 S. Broadway, dwntwn.; Thurs., July 8, 8 p.m.; $50-$150. Individual screenings at various locations, $13, through July 18.
