Most members of the Los Angeles Facial Society have chin hairs older than their new club, which just launched in July. Founded by two men and two women, all ardent stubble supporters, the group promotes what co-founder Michael Sparks calls “facial-hair awareness,” with the goal of “unifying California's facial-hair community.” When members aren't recruiting mutton-chopped men around town, they're meeting in bars and preparing for their first big blowout this weekend. Around 100 West Coast chin Rapunzels are expected to show their strands at the group's Beard and Mustache Competition, entering such divisions as “style stache,” “goatee” and “freestyle.” (The DIY “whiskerinas” category targets ladies blessed with hair on that half of their heads.) By the end of the five-hour face-off, winners in eight categories will be crowned by the hair on their chinny chin chins. The Federal Bar, 5303 Lankershim Blvd., N. Hlywd.; Sat., Oct. 12, 4-9 p.m.; $15. lafacialhair.org.
