The digital world wouldn’t be complete without adult entertainment. According to Webroot, roughly 40 million Americans watch porn. Even though people’s preferred porn genre varies per person, there are some new and old porn trends PornHub visitors searched for more frequently in 2022.

2022 Porn Trends That People Have Been Searching on PornHub

1. Reality

Not everyone has the skills and talent of porn actors. Hence, why “reality” porn was one of the most searched terms on PornHub last 2022. Despite the expensive production of several porn videos and the easy access to adult content on OnlyFans, many still prefer real homemade sex tapes. Last 2022, “reality” porn was searched for over 300% more. Surprisingly, according to PornHub, women sought this porn genre more than men.

2. Gender

Porn has always been inclusive. Globally, transgender porn was the 7th most searched genre — and the 3rd most popular porn category in the US; PornHub visitors often searched for FTM (female to male) and MTF (male to female) porn. Additionally, according to the site’s gathered data, Millennials searched for transgender porn 36% more than other generations.

3. Group Sex

“The more the merrier” apparently applies to porn as well. Though group sex has always been what many preferred watching in the past,  in 2022, PornHub saw a rise in group sex searches — the adult site’s Threesome category was viewed (and the videos there were watched) 34% more last year than in previous years. FFM (female + female + male) and FMM (female + male + male) were both popular searches — and Gen Zs are the most frequent viewers of threesome videos. 

4. Outdoors

Whether it’s porn or real life, outdoor sex is always a favorite among couples and sexual partners. That’s also probably why “Outdoor” sex was one of PornHub’s top 10 categories in the top 20 countries (that watch PornHub videos the most). Gay men also seem to have a penchant for outdoor porn. Compared to heterosexual people, according to PornHub, “Gay men were +40% more likely to view ‘Outdoor’ porn when compared to non-gay visitors, and they like ‘camping’ 549% more!”

5. Positions

Some people watch porn to get ideas on how they’ll be doing it the next time — because the most common sex positions can get boring for them. That’s probably why “crazy positions” and “weird sex positions” were two of the most commonly searched terms on PornHub last year. The most popular search, however, was “scissoring.” Surprisingly, as often as we hear people say that men like to watch lesbian porn, it was women who searched for this category last year more — with women being 155% more likely to watch those videos.

6. Feet

Feet porn seems to make sense as thousands of people have a foot fetish — both men and women; according to PornHub, in 2021, there was only a 0.07% difference when it comes to the gender that was more likely to watch foot porn videos. And in 2022, feet fetish videos grew 38% more in popularity. Moreover, last year, women searched for foot videos 145% more.

7. Femdom

BDSM is another preferred type of sex that lots of people are into. But last year, many PornHub visitors sought videos of women dominating their partners. “Femdom” and “female domination” searches became 28% more popular in 2022. And the most popular Femdom-related search was “lesbian domination.”

8. Hentai

Porn doesn’t have to be realistic all the time. After all, some types of porn are already difficult to recreate in real life. This can also be the reason why “hentai” porn — clips featuring highly sexualized animated characters and imagery — remains a popular PornHub search — because it’s still the #1 most popular category worldwide; USA’s 2021 most searched term was also “hentai.”

9. MILF

Having sex with a “MILF” (an acronym for Mother I‘d Like to F***) has always been appealing to many — because it remains one of the most popular types of porn that PornHub visitors searched for last year. Furthermore, in 2018, “MILF” was the most searched term in the US.

10. Lesbian

It seems to be highly unlikely that “lesbian” porn will stop becoming trendy — as it remains popular among PornHub visitors — especially in the United States where it’s also one of the most sought porn categories. In 2017 and 2019, it was the most popular keyword that American PornHub visitors searched for on the adult site. It certainly is interesting how a country so divided on the issue of LGBTQ is totally into same-sex action — mainly by women.

There are PornHub genres and categories that remain popular. But some porn trends grew in popularity last year — as they were searched for more frequently by the site’s visitors in 2022. However, you don’t have to be into whichever porn is trendy. After all, your fantasies, kinks, and fetishes are unique to you.
