Lina LecaroThere are parties and then there are experiences, events that go beyond the usual DJs, drinks and festive decor. Elizabeth Fraines (known by many in the downtown art scene as “MuseZon”) definitely creates the latter. In fact, she deserves a mention in this list.
We've covered the scenester siren's last few birthday bashes for Nightranger – a fetishy fete at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and last year, a Femme Fatale warehouse rager in Downtown. This girl goes big for her gatherings, offering themes, eclectic amusements and a naughty atmosphere. So we knew her “Valley of the Dolls” shindig Saturday night at LA Design Center would be wild and whimsical.
It was the mix of cuteness and creativity we expected. A large contingent of girlie Lolita types in ponytails and lace and Barbie babes came out (the party's name was more about plastic parts and cosplay than the classic film) for a latex fashion show from Pure Salon, Blacklickorish and Timothy Tristan, an exhibit of sexy artwork, spinners Mark Lewis and Matuss, bar by Boardners (which we hear, was packed across town for salacious industrial grinders The Genitorturers that night) and a midnight performance conceptualized by Robert Vargas starring the hostess herself.
Vargas also did his own live art (see more at his popular Red Zebra night which celebrates its one year anniversary this Thursday), but at these types of soirees the mediums go beyond paper and paint, and onto flesh. See for yourself below.
