Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is in the final stretch of its eighth annual Make March Matter campaign. The campaign aims to raise funds by leveraging community participation through local businesses. A record 111 businesses partnered with CHLA this year, with funds being utilized by the hospital to continue its pioneering research and innovative treatments in pediatric medicine.

Each participating business, including Panda Express, Barry’s Bootcamp, Alfred’s Coffee and more, has chosen a distinct approach to contribute to the overall impact of the campaign. Some have pledged to donate a portion of their sales for the entire month, while others have opted to sell specific items with proceeds going towards Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), like Porto’s Bakery and Cafe Additionally, some companies have designed their own unique fundraising initiatives to encourage both their employees and consumers to contribute to the cause. CHLA is not your typical hospital; it’s the largest provider of children’s care in Los Angeles County, is the number one ranked pediatric hospital in California, and ranks consistently in the top 10 of U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals. It changed the life of 15-year-old patient, Tyler O’Rourke who was born blind, but now can see after 2 surgeries at CHLA. With the help of CHLA’s dedicated and experienced staff, Tyler received the gift of sight. When speaking about what makes CHLA so special, Tyler’s father Craig said, “Luckily we had insurance money to help us pay, but not every family does. The hospital does amazing work for [all families regardless of their financial abilities.”

The hospital kicked off the month-long fundraising drive on March 1 with avid CHLA supporter  and recent Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis leading the proceedings. Curtis has been involved with CHLA for almost 20 years. “I believe that when you buy that sculpture for your aunt, whose husband died unexpectedly — and you write a note saying that you are sending it from a company that donates 100 percent of all proceeds to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for the care and treatment of critically ill and injured children — that’s more than financial support, that is the goal of community support.” Curtis told The Hollywood Reporter. To date, with eight years of Make March Matter fundraising, CHLA has raised over $10 million dollars. Although we are in the last week of March, there are still many ways to make your money matter this March. Spend your money with businesses that choose to support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and take part in changing the lives of children around the world.
