Here's mud in your eye — nearly four miles' worth, to be exact. That Dam Mud Run invites overgrown kids to play dirty at the inaugural L.A. County 5K mud run, hosted by the organizers of the Irvine Lake Mud Run and benefiting the Gavin R. Stevens Foundation, a local nonprofit that raises funds to treat and cure blindness. You can compete solo and hog all the glory, or join a team navigating through an obstacle course, which includes making it past walls, tires, ramps, nets and mud pits. You can wash off all that caked-on, hard-earned mud in one of the more than 30 showers, though we suspect you'll be cleaning out gooey gunk from every orifice for days to come. Costumes are encouraged, and finishers are rewarded with live entertainment, food and a beer garden, the place where all smart decisions are made. Spectators can stay clean and watch from the sidelines for free. Santa Fe Dam Recreation Facility, 11501 E. Arrow Hwy., Irwindale; Sat., Oct. 13, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; $69, $15 kids. thatdammudrun.com.
