It seemed the theaters at The Grove and Americana at Brand would be shut down for good, but AMC announced that it would be reopening theaters at those locations.

AMC Entertainment reached a deal to lease the property from Caruso, the real estate company which owned the property in the area, and plan to reopen in August.

“Nothing can replace the movie-going experience. Even with the advancement of technology bringing content to us in the comfort of our homes, going to the movies remains an important part of our lives because nothing can ever replace the shared experience of being in a movie theater. Simply put, some movies are made to be enjoyed together,” Rick Caruso, Founder and CEO of Caruso said. “We are excited to partner with AMC – the best management team in the business with a laser focus on the guest experience. AMC has the largest footprint of theaters in the world, giving them global authority on innovation. As we look ahead to reopening, we are confident that we will continue to see audiences at our movie theaters creating cherished memories for years to come. Los Angeles, welcome back to the movies!”

Both theaters were previously run by Pacific Theatres, which closed all of its locations in April.

The theaters, like all theaters in California, were forced to close completely for months during the 2020 pandemic. Mandates did not allow for theaters to reopen until June 15, and at that point, both Pacific Theatres and ArcLight had announced that they would not be reopening.

AMC is still in negotiations with Caruso for possibly reopening other theater locations that have been shuttered after the pandemic closures.
