The Wildhearts Vs COVID: Over three decades into their career, Brit rockers The Wildhearts remain one of the world’s best kept secrets. Nine studio albums plus a bunch of EPs, live albums, assorted compilations and countless singles behind them, yet barely a bad moment of music between them. It’s frankly insane.

The band has varied vibes over the years (notably on the distortion-heavy Endless Nameless, an album which continues to divide fans), but the M.O. has remained fairly consistent: melody, riff, crunch, harmony. They’re everything that’s ever been great about rock & roll, blended together into a musical smoothie. The song “29 X the Pain” lists the influences for our convenience: The Replacements, Husker Du, the Beatles, the Stones, Ramones, etc.

On Saturday, they perform a livestreamed set, and the fan have been voting online to choose the setlist. A press release nails it: “Their incendiary live performances over the last few years have seen the band’s popularity hit new heights as The Wildhearts continue to cement their reputation and legacy as one of the best bands the UK has ever produced.”

Truer words have never been spoken.
