Marc Kielburger is a social entrepreneur, New York Times bestselling author, and co-host of the “My Legacy” podcast and syndicated radio show on iHeart. His career features impactful collaborations with global icons like Oprah Winfrey and Richard Branson and transformative initiatives that have touched millions of lives.

However, the entrepreneur hit a breaking point. Once a high-level college rugby player, he struggled physically and emotionally through life. He’d spent years living with a chronic ankle injury, and combined with significant work stress from the pandemic, he felt worn down. He was 50 pounds overweight, barely sleeping, and felt like he was headed for a wheelchair.

Instead of giving up, Kielburger boldly decided to rebuild his life completely. He is now focused on championing something personal: holistic health and well-being. He emerged with a renewed sense of purpose, anchored in his three-pillar approach to wellness: biohacking, integrative medicine, and living a fulfilled life. It’s more than just a health and wellness routine. This philosophy is his guide to living a life of true fulfillment, fueled by clarity, purpose, and a renewed inner energy.

Marc Kielburger gives insights into these approaches, explaining how each contributed to optimised physical health, enhanced emotional resilience, and a deeper sense of fulfillment.

“It does us no good to be free of physical injuries if our metabolic health is terrible or our mental state is rooted in trauma, anxiety, and stress,” Kielburger says. “We often think of the body as a machine, but that’s only part of the picture. We are living, breathing, emotional organisms – we can’t focus on just one part of our personal ecosystem and hope to achieve wellness. It must be a truly integrative approach.”

Biohacking: Optimising the Body for Peak Performance

The first pillar of Kielburger’s wellness philosophy is biohacking—a practice that involves making small, intentional changes to one’s biology to achieve better health and performance. For Kielburger, biohacking and his experience with stem cell therapy became a lifeline during his recovery from years of physical wear and tear.

It all started with a single “pop” during a high school rugby game in 1994. That one moment led to many grueling years of reinjury, surgeries, and treatments that never really worked. By the time he reached his 40s, Kielburger’s left ankle was so inflamed and sore that even just standing for too long left it swollen and stiff. But he was not ready to let the chronic injury dictate how his future would look.

Kielburger shares, “I took what I thought at the time was a bold step and tried stem cell therapy. Over three years, I received multiple injections of stem cells at a clinic in Costa Rica. The outcome was life-changing.”

After three years, Kielburger underwent four rounds of stem cell injections directly into the damaged joint, which significantly improved his physical condition.

“Before this treatment, I couldn’t even stand on my left foot,” Kielburger adds. “Now I can balance on it while standing on an unstable surface—it’s like getting a second chance at mobility.”

Another key biohacking intervention was plasma exchange therapy, often described as an “oil change” for the body. According to Kielburger, plasma exchange therapy helped flush out the inflammation-causing agents from his body, leading to healing and dramatically increased energy levels.

These biohacking practices allowed Kielburger to reclaim his physical health and laid the foundation for a more profound transformation. For him, biohacking is not about chasing immortality as it is often portrayed; it’s about reclaiming what a person has lost and connecting them to their full physical potential.

Integrative Medicine: Healing at the Cellular Level

Integrative medicine is the second pillar of Kielburger’s three-pillar approach to wellness. As his body grew stronger, he focused on improving his health at a cellular level, which is where integrative medicine comes in.

For Kielburger, this meant focusing on longevity medicine to improve his cellular health and reverse signs of aging. He teamed up with Dr. Tim Cook, Canada’s foremost longevity doctor. Dr. Cook had spent many years of his career in a high-profile hospital role, leaving conventional medicine and opening his private practice focused on longevity, including prevention and performance treatments.

Dr. Cook’s method is anchored in precision medicine. This approach uses in-depth diagnostics and continuous tracking to create tailored treatments for each patient he sees, many of whom are executives and entrepreneurs.

Kielburger underwent advanced testing at Dr. Cook’s clinic, including taking the Dunedin Pace of Aging test, a blood analysis test that can predict how fast a person is aging. This experience helped shape Marc’s personalised wellness plan, which includes supplements tailored to his specific needs, NAD+ injections, peptide therapies, and lifestyle modifications designed to lower his biological age.

At 47, Marc Kielburger shares how he feels as vibrant as he did in his mid-20s. His daily routine and adopted habits reflect his commitment to achieving a better life. He wakes up at 4:15 a.m., starts his day with meditation, ensures that he eats nutrient-rich meals, and completes high-intensity workouts followed by cold plunges. He also takes early morning walks along the shores of Lake Ontario, accompanied by his Bernese Mountain dog, Daisy, whom Kielburger calls his unofficial “life coach.”

“It’s not about living longer for the sake of it,” Kielburger says. “It’s about living better now. Longevity medicine isn’t just about adding years to your life; it’s about adding life to your years.”

Living a Fulfilled Life—Connecting to Your Mind and Spirit

The third pillar in Kielburger’s wellness approach is living a fulfilled life. It wasn’t enough to only physically heal his body. Kielburger embraced the power of living a fulfilled life, rich in purpose, belonging, and connection.

In 2020, Kielburger experienced an extreme emotional low caused by major stress from the pandemic. Through this experience, he realised that to truly move forward, he had to turn inward.

It was then that Kielburger decided to embrace daily meditation and mindfulness. In doing so, he discovered the power of living a fulfilled life through connection and consciousness, which he now considers the most important pillar in his wellness approach. Through this approach, he found a way to manage his stress, heal past trauma, and reconnect with his core values.

“Connection and consciousness are about more than just mindfulness,” he explains. “It’s about aligning your actions with your values and showing up authentically in every aspect of your life.”

For Kielburger, this newly found presence became a kind of medicine that allowed him to strengthen his bonds with family and community. Whether it was morning walks with his dog Daisy or time spent playing with his daughters, he started to reembrace and value these moments of presence in his life.

The Power of Integration

Each of these three pillars—biohacking, integrative medicine, and living a fulfilled life—offers its own value. But Kielburger believes that the full adoption and integration of all three elements leads to true transformation and fulfillment.

“In 2020, I wasn’t seeking perfection – I just knew I couldn’t keep doing what I was doing,” Kielburger reflects. “What I needed was reconnection. By bringing together the three pillars of wellness, I finally began to heal—not just my body, but my entire self.”

Today, you can find Kielburger doing yoga, recuperating in his hyperbaric chamber, or occasionally back on the rugby pitch. He’s even introduced his daughter to the sport, creating a full circle moment. Having risen from despair and pain to a place where he can fully embrace life again, he is not just recovered—he is renewed.

Kielburger’s three-pillar approach to wellness presents a framework for achieving true well-being. Each pillar addresses a distinct dimension of health, but together, they create a comprehensive method that enhances how people live and deepens their understanding of why they live.

Inspiring Others Through Legacy and Wellness

Kielburger’s three-pillar approach to wellness is only one of the many ways he inspires others to embrace intentional living. His latest book, “What Is My Legacy?” co-written with Craig Kielburger, Martin Luther King III, and Arndrea Waters King and released on January 20, challenges readers to reflect on their purpose and create legacies that uplift communities. It provides a roadmap for building meaningful lives rooted in connection and compassion.

In addition to his work as an author, Marc Kielburger also co-hosts the “My Legacy” podcast and syndicated radio show on iHeart alongside Martin Luther King III, Arndrea Waters King, and Craig Kielburger. The podcast delves into the untold stories of some of the world’s most influential figures, exploring themes of purpose, resilience, and legacy-building.

Together, these platforms amplify Kielburger’s mission to inspire others to live with intention, whether by embarking on their wellness journeys or creating lasting impact in their communities. The author and wellness advocate empower others to take small but meaningful steps toward building lives they are proud of—lives marked by vitality, connection, and purpose.
