Don't believe all of that NCAA basketball hype; there's only one single-elimination bracket to worry about this month, and L.A. Taco has it covered. The alternative arts/food/culture site has just released the 5th annual version of their extremely popular Taco Madness tournament, which pits the city's best tacos against one another for ultimate bragging rights.

Previous winners have included formidable talents such as Mariscos Jalisco, Guisados and Mexicali Taco & Co., and while they all make vastly different styles of taco, it's hard to argue against any one of them. Not to be outdone, Ricky's Fish Taco (despite a recent return to the underground) is a perennial favorite and, despite never having won the tournament, sits as a #1 seed in the rankings.

Other notable taco slingers include Yuca's, newcomer Mondo Tacos, La Estrella, Tacos Leo and El Flamin' Taco, with intriguing match ups throughout. In the self-styled Battle of Santa Monica, previous finalist Tacos Por Favor rubs up against high-octane newcomer Tacos Punta Cabra, with only one advancing. Noted al pastor truck Tacos Tamix squares off against Pico's finest birria at El Parian, and in a tight battle between high class and low class, Bar Amá's puffy tacos try to push out the potato tacos from El Atacor #11.

Online voting is up as of this morning, which means you can head over to L.A. Taco now to make your voice (and stomach) heard. As the entrants are whittled down, the voting becomes more condensed, so check back often to make sure your favorite local taco spot gets the top nod. We've already compiled a list of our favorite tacos in Los Angeles, but with a field of only 32 entrants that spans from Santa Monica to South Pasadena, you can't go wrong with any name on this list.
