For some of us, when it comes to food, vegan is synonymous with bland, boring and utterly unsatisfying. But here in L.A., the growing movement towards local, plant-based food sources has left us with plenty of hearty, flavorful, vegan-friendly versions of our favorite comfort foods. On Sunday, March 2, five teams of Los Angeles-based chefs are putting this to the test in the second annual Vegan Chili Cook-Off.

Tony's Darts Away
will host the showdown, and Randy Clemens, author of The Sriracha Cookbook, is among the competition. (Judge and Crossroads chef Tal Ronnen better like his chili on the spicier side.)

Chili tastings begin at 12 p.m. ($10 for 3-ounce. samples of all the entries), but stick around for the Judge's Choice Award, People's Choice Awards and closing ceremony, beginning at 5:30 p.m. By then you might be ready for one of Tony's locally-brewed craft IPAs or their signature sausages. Come for the chili, stay for the beer. Let the games begin – especially now that they're over in Sochi.

WHEN: Sunday, March 2, 12 p.m. –  6 p.m.
WHERE: Tony's Darts Away, 1710 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank.
