We don't mean to make Macy's Thanksgiving feel bad, but the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena is truly king of the parade world. It's the crown jewel of the Rose Bowl, in which the Wisconsin Badgers are back to avenge last year's defeat. So the game is big, but the parade is bigger. So big, in fact, it's bringing a float with it so colossal it's set to break records. Imagine a traveling wave pool with a gaggle of live, barking, surfing dogs hanging 10 on a 70-foot breaker. (Never fear — they held auditions. These dogs are professional.) Assuming this float makes it through the parade route, (fingers crossed!) it will break the Guinness World Record for Heaviest and Longest Float. And, we can only guess, greatest number of surfing pets in SoCal. Not sure if there's a category for that. Parade route runs down Orange Grove and Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena; Mon., Jan. 2, 8 a.m.; tournamentofroses.com.
