If you haven't marked your calendars for August 11, maybe do that now. Our third annual Pancake Breakfast will be held that Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Vibiana, everybody's favorite deconsecrated cathedral. Curated by Evan Kleiman, there will be some seriously great restaurants and chefs coming this year, including Neal Fraser, featuring some of his Neal Fraser & Co. at Vibiana dishes (Redbird, his forthcoming restaurant at Vibiana will open late this year). Turn the page for a final list of participating restaurants, comments from Kleiman — and the winners of our reader's pancake recipe contest! (Thanks for playing!)
“Breakfast is probably the most intimate meal of the day,” Kleiman emailed this morning, when we asked her for, well, a meditation on the coming event. “We engage with food in a half awake nearly unconscious state, which is why breakfast is so beloved, so coveted at times we're a little more away, like brunch, lunch or even dinner. It's the ultimate comfort meal, where sweet and savory, carbs and protein meet on a plate.
“And no matter what you're idea of breakfast is, you're very likely to find it at this year's Pancake Breakfast. From Red Velvet pancakes to a crazy rich rice bowl Pancake Breakfast is a time to throw off the eating “shoulds” and tuck into your brunchy “wants”. Join us as we eat our way into a carbohydrate fog.”
See below for the list of restaurants bringing all sorts of breakfast dishes to the event. Maybe even more exciting is our first-ever pancake recipe contest, in which we asked for recipes from readers — the winners will be making their pancakes at the event.
