0 1The Nutcracker Ballet brings a majestic nostalgia to the holiday season that many look forward to each year.  Two productions – the Long Beach Ballet and Orange County’s Segerstrom Center for the Arts shows– have completed their runs, but if you missed those and are comfortable with indoor events, there are still a few shows in town that capture the fantasy. Los Angeles Ballet’s Nutcracker at Dolby Theater – LAB (pictured above) has been traveling to various locales all month and it ends up at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood for four final showsthis weekend , including a Christmas Eve matinee and day after Christmas show. Set in a Spanish style California home, the classic story of Clara and her Nutcracker’s holiday adventure to the Land of Snow and the Palace of the Dolls never ceases to be magical. These shows are extra special too as a live orchestra accompanies the show. Runs thru Dec. 26. 6801 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood. Info and tickets at losangelesballet.org.

The American Contemporary Ballet’s The Nutcracker Suite “Your Kingdom Awaits” – ACB is back after a two-year hiatus with a unique imagining of The Nutcracker featuring live musicians performing the music of Tchaikovsky and an immersive show from the company, plus a chance to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy afterward. Bob Baker’s Nutcracker – The marionette adaptation has been a seasonal favorite since BB opened in 1969 for good reason. Waltzing flowers, the Nutcracker band (The Go-Go’s!), and the prince and the beautiful Sugarplum fairy are all part of the puppet fun.
