Famous pop surrealist and former Angeleno Mark Ryden has spent the past year developing the otherworldly costumes and set design for American Ballet Theatre's Whipped Cream, a new production of a 1924 Richard Strauss ballet. Whipped Cream receives its world premiere this week at Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa, where it runs through Sunday, March 19. The imagery will be familiar to fans of Ryden's work, but it's all the more dynamic in three dimensions, dancing across a stage.
