Babies, man. They're so damned picky. To satisfy the growing demand for baby food that is organic, eco-friendly, non-toxic, and yummy, Plum Organics just came out with this new line.

See the new packaging concept? It's a pouch. It is soft and squishy to the touch, and feels not unlike a saline breast implant. The top twists off to reveal a nipple-like spout.

Baby food normally comes in glass bottles. But babies and shards of glass mix about as well as… babies and shards of glass. The solution is plastic. But people have been freaking out lately about plastic. It has chemicals. It is chemicals. And it tends to stick around in the environment for, like, forever.

Plum Organics's solution is to do a plastic packaging that is BPA-free and biodegradable/compostable. BPA, or Bisphenol A, is an endocrine disruptor believed to be toxic to humans. It's the chemical that gets released when you microwave plastic.

The new pouch baby food comes in flavors like “spinach, peas & pear” and “sweet potato, corn & apple,” and “pumpkin & banana.” There are also snack versions in peach, strawberry, banana.

Though I am not the target demographic, and probably don't have the proper palate, I sampled the “strawberry mish mash.” It tasted pretty good, kind of like a warm Jamba Juice. One of the gals in the office tried a finger-full of the pumpkin banana and made a face just like a baby would.
