Brix @ 1601 in Hermosa Beach will be serving its last meal tonight. The contemporary American restaurant, which opened in April 2008, is closing down for various reasons, said owner Gene Shook, who was too busy accommodating customers to explain any further. In a downtrodden voicemail message, Shook said the restaurant is closing tonight and strongly recommends reservations. The bar opens at 4:30 p.m., and the restaurant starts serving dinner at 5 p.m. But make sure to pause your new Susan Boyle CD when phoning in. The hostess' voice, clanging plates in the kitchen, and the sound of a frantic wait staff scurrying about should be enough distraction. And in any closing, everything must go, right? There will be “crazy deals on wines” tonight. “Let's just say if someone comes in who likes good wine they will definitely be satisfied,” said Shook, who is encouraging patrons to dine in for one last hurrah. Farewell Brix @ 1601.
