Al Ridenour lectures on Krampus, Santa’s evil counterpart and a popular figure of German and European folklore, who’s also been turning up in American pop culture. Using film clips and costumed members of the Krampus L.A. Troupe, Ridenour uncovers the 17th-century origins of the devil-like creature with hooves and horns, who punishes naughty children during the Christmas season. Ridenour is co-director of the second annual Krampus Los Angeles, a multivenue celebration of the tradition, which includes a ball as well as art, performances and workshops.
